What happens in a first homeopathic consultation
What to expect at your first homeopathic consultation: what to bring, how the case history is taken, existing medicines, fees and how follow-up is planned.
A first homeopathic consultation at Paras Homeopathy takes longer than a follow-up visit. Most of that time goes into the case history, because the prescription is built from it. Knowing what to expect helps you prepare, ask the right questions and get more out of the appointment, whether you visit the clinic in Sardarpura, Jodhpur or consult online from elsewhere in India or abroad.
How long the first consultation takes
Allow more time for the first visit than for any later one, and avoid booking it just before another commitment. Long-standing or complicated complaints, or several complaints at once, take longer to go through. Follow-up visits are usually much shorter, because they build on the history already recorded.
What to bring to your first visit
Bring whatever records you already have. They save time and help the doctor see how the complaint has behaved over months or years.
- Previous prescriptions, homeopathic or conventional
- Laboratory reports, scans and hospital discharge summaries, in date order if possible
- A list of every medicine and supplement you take now, with doses
- Notes on when the complaint began and what makes it better or worse
- A short list of the questions you want to ask
For a full checklist, read how to prepare for your consultation.
The homeopathic case history
The doctor asks about the main complaint first: when it started, how it has changed, what triggers it and what has already been tried. The questions then widen to sleep, appetite, thirst, digestion, energy, sensitivity to heat and cold, and how you respond to stress.
These details can seem unrelated to the complaint. They are recorded because a homeopathic prescription is chosen for the individual patient, not only for the diagnosis. Two patients with the same diagnosis, for example eczema or acidity, are rarely prescribed the same way. Past illnesses, family history and major life events are also noted, because they help show the overall pattern.
Answer as openly as you can. There are no right or wrong answers, and everything you share is kept confidential.
Reports and existing treatment
If you are on prescribed medication, you will not be asked to stop it. Homeopathic medicines are usually taken alongside your current treatment, and any change to conventional medicines should be decided with the doctor who prescribed them. If the history or reports suggest that an investigation or a specialist opinion is needed, you will be told so directly.
Do not stop or change any prescribed medication on your own. Discuss any change with the doctor who prescribed it.
Medicines, fees and follow-up
At the end of the consultation the doctor explains the plan: which medicines to take, how to take them and when to return. Medicines are dispensed from the clinic's own pharmacy, or shipped to you after an online consultation.
Follow-up visits review how you have responded and adjust the plan. Keeping a simple note of changes between visits makes each follow-up more useful.
If you expect several months of follow-up, one payment can cover consultation, the first month of medicines and every follow-up. See the Bundle Plan.
How long treatment takes
This depends on the complaint, how long it has been present and how you respond. A recent complaint and a condition that has lasted for years are very different situations. The doctor will tell you what to expect at the first visit and will review progress at every follow-up. No outcome or timeline is guaranteed.
Questions worth asking at the end
- How should I take the medicines, and what should I avoid while taking them?
- When should I come back for follow-up?
- What changes should I watch for and note down?
- Is any test or specialist opinion needed?
- Whom should I contact if something changes before the next visit?

Common questions
How long does a first homeopathic consultation take?
Longer than any later visit, because the full case history is taken. Long-standing or complicated complaints take more time. Follow-up visits are shorter because they build on the history already taken.
Do I need to stop my current medicines before seeing a homeopath?
No. Do not stop or change any prescribed medicine on your own. Homeopathic medicines are usually taken alongside current treatment, and any change to conventional medicines should be discussed with the doctor who prescribed them.
Why does the homeopath ask about sleep, appetite and mood?
Because the prescription is chosen for the individual patient, not only for the diagnosis. Details such as sleep, appetite, sensitivity to heat or cold and response to stress help the doctor choose between medicines.
What should I bring to my first consultation?
Previous prescriptions, recent reports and scans, hospital discharge summaries, a list of every medicine and supplement you take with doses, and a short note of your questions.
Can I have my first consultation online?
Yes. Patients elsewhere in India and abroad can consult Dr. Ramdeo Lamoria by video or phone. Choose Online Consultation on the appointment page and send your reports before the call.
